The Arkansas State Teachers Association (ASTA) announced its statewide teacher scholarship and classroom grant award winners for fall 2010, with six teachers each receiving up to $500 for various pursuits in education.

“ASTA applauds the innovation and dedication that have been demonstrated by these teachers in their submissions,” said ASTA State Membership Director Shanna Morgason. “These scholarships and grants are an investment in empowering teachers as professionals across the state.”

ASTA is committed to offering individual educators various avenues for improving effectiveness in the classroom.  The teacher scholarships provide teachers with funding to further themselves professionally by attending and completing professional development conferences, graduate courses, or pursuing National Board Certification.  The classroom grants are offered to educators as a way to provide students with supplies and/or activities which enrich their learning experience.

The scholarship and grant winners are as follows:

Teacher Scholarship recipients:                 Classroom Grant recipients:

Jennifer Payne – Gravette                             Emma Mateo – Little Rock

Kimberley Wary – Bentonville                       Sharon Boyd – Cabot

Jonathan Williams – Malvern                       Ericia Curruth – Geyer Springs

The Arkansas State Teachers Association is the fastest growing non-union professional teachers’ organization in the state.  ASTA seeks to advance the teaching profession through professional development, teacher advocacy and protection as well as promoting educational excellence. As a non-union association, ASTA offers educators an alternative to the partisan politics and non-educational agendas of teacher unions.  ASTA membership is only $15 per month and is open to all employees of education institutions.  Learn more about ASTA at www.astapro.org.

The deadline for the spring competition is March 31, 2011. Click here to apply.
